Big news this week at Out-of-Print Archive, as the first official release is announced with the second issue of Mega Drive Advanced Gaming -- a fantastic underrated magazine of its time. Fittingly, this milestone release was worked on by all the main contributors over at Out-of-Print Archive. Online articles chosen for the release include reviews of Gleylancer, Magical Tarot, Thunderforce IV and Twinkle Tale. Check out the MAG2 page over at OoPA for the content highlights, issue details and download link.

Sukeban Deka II for the Sega Master System is now in English. If you’ve never heard of it (and probably 3 people in the western world have), it’s a hybrid digital comic/brawler based on a Japanese movie from the 80’s. I made a couple improvements such as expanding the rom to give room for all the text and increasing your health so that you don’t die quickly like in the original version. There’s no password or save feature, but it’s a very short game and can be easily beaten in an hour or so. This is also the first released translation for enigmaopoeia who did a great job on the text considering how corny the source material was.
I also believe this marks the last Sega Master System game that needed to be translated into English. I’ve went over the release lists and can’t find anything else that isn’t available officially or with a patch!

Here's v1.2 b1 of the Neo Myth Menu for the MD. This is the candidate for inclusion with the next official release of the Neo2 Ultra Menu, so please test it. Changes from last time include making a delay of a second while browsing the list of entries before the extended info is fetched. This is to speed up browsing when you have LOTS of files. This version should also allow you to use an SMS pad in the left port to control the menu. I'd appreciate it if someone with an SMS pad would try that. Before, you had to stick a MD pad in the right port at the same time if you wished to use an SMS pad.

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of retro games. A journey into a wondrous console containing a bunch of old Genesis games and some generic motion-controlled games. That's the signpost up ahead. Your next stop: the Sega Zone.
Pocket Lint has images of a new licensed Sega console called the Sega Zone (or the Zone Sega, according to the box), out in the UK this summer, that contains 15 Genesis classics and 30 new games, 16 of which can be played with the device's two wireless motion controllers.
Essentially a Firecore Classic Console crossed with the "Zone 40," an existing knockoff Wii console, the Sega Zone also features a cartridge slot so you can play your copy of McDonalds' Treasure Land Adventure. It'll sell for £39.95 (about $60) in the UK.

My latest release, v1.1b5, now adds support for SDHC (High Capacity SD cards). Seen cheap 4GB and 8GB cards around? Now you can use them.
To use, copy the MDBIOS.BIN file to the NEO2 Ultra Menu directory on your harddrive (overwriting the file there already). Run the app, go to the Format tab and do a fast format.
On the MD, press START once and you'll be on the USB link screen. Press START again and you'll be in the SD card browser. Press START yet again to get back to the Flash browser.
The SD card browser supports BIN and SMD format roms. Navigate over a rom name and press A for options, B to run with the reset mode set to RESET-to-Menu, and C to run with the reset mode set to RESET-to-Game.
The options screen allows you to set the reset mode, the save ram type, the size of the save ram, and the save ram bank. The flash has all that handled by the Windows menu, but when running off the SD card, you don't have any of that, so the options screen provides you a way to set that extra info.
One of these days, I'll write up a readme for this.
01/03/2010 - v1.1b6 released. Now with readme!

The first issue of MEGA has been released at Out-of-Print Archive. The October 1992 edition of the Mega Drive magazine was scanned, edited and released by Nreive (yes, this very author). MEGA is one of my favourite classic gaming magazines and I intend to have the whole run of issues online sometime - in between editing/designing retroaction, of course. The magazine scan archive can be downloaded for free from the link on OoPA's MEGA issue 1 page. Accompanying online articles include reviews of NHLPA Hockey '93, Speedball 2 and Thunderforce IV plus a feature/interview with EASN's Don Transeth.

Newly released today:

After months of waiting, Sonic the Hedgehog has finally arrived with his friends Tails and Knuckles. These are not mere Sonic toys, they are the vinyl figures created by First4Figures, known for crafting realistic figures and statues from high quality polystone.
Although the materials are different and the sizes are much smaller, you can still see the vivid posture and careful sculpting.
Sonic, like always, is challenging everybody around to a run. So, come take up the challenge, catch him and take him home.
Tails, Sonic's sidekick is grinning happily, his double tails prepared to spin and propel him to the air. As opposed to Tail's friendly disposition, Knuckles stands up straight with balled fists, showing you the sharp pikes on his knuckles. This power character only need to stand still to inspire awe.
The three vinyl figures have arrived, crafted in the classic Sony games fashion. Build your own game stage in your display case with these three players:
Sonic The Hedgehog Series 1 - Vinyl Figure: Knuckles US US$ 12.90
Sonic The Hedgehog Series 1 - Vinyl Figure: Sonic US US$ 12.90
Sonic The Hedgehog Series 1 - Vinyl Figure: Tails US US$ 12.90
